The Fraternity’s mission has been refined to be “Building Balanced Men.” With these three words, we capture the essence of SigEp’s value to its members: charting a course for men to live their best lives by embracing our cardinal principles of Virtue, Diligence and Brotherly Love and committing to the practice of Sound Mind and Sound Body.

The men of SigEp can follow this course through every role in their lives. Every element of SigEp’s short- and long-term plan is designed to deliver on this mission.

Why the change?

The mission has been “Building Balanced Leaders for the World’s Communities” since 2001. The previous mission allowed the Fraternity to build a range of local and national programs to allow men to enhance leadership abilities and forge a strong brotherhood. Going forward, we will continue to refine and improve these leader-oriented programs while we focus on the holistic elements of balance that create a man’s best life as leader, brother, husband, father, mentor, community servant, and citizen.

With an estimated quarter million members, SigEps live, serve and work around the globe. They are having significant impact in business, government, community service and academia. Our mission is carried out through chapters and by cultivating the connections alumni have with one another.

The Balanced Man Scholarship awards incoming freshmen who exhibit academic excellence, demonstrate leadership skills, and commit to health and well-being. This year we are awarding three scholarships in the amount of $500. After we receive your application, a brother will contact you to set up an interview.

Dear Incoming Freshman Male:
Congratulations on your decision to attend the University of the Evansville for your college career. As I look back on the previous semesters, I realize that there is no better college suited for continuing my education. However, a good, solid education does have its costs.
The men of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity look to help incoming freshman males offset a portion of that cost by offering the coveted Balanced Man Scholarship. The Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity emphasizes the importance of Sound Body and Sound Mind in every aspect of daily life. We feel that this approach is a key to success, not only in school, but in everything one does. The Balanced Man Scholarship is an award totaling $1500 to the top three candidates who show strong characteristics of a Balanced Man and exhibit Sound Body and Sound Mind. However, Sigma Phi Epsilon stresses that no membership or obligation to the fraternity is necessary to win this prestigious award. Many of the previous winners have not participated in Greek life, or joined a different fraternity. Sigma Phi Epsilon believes firmly that the principles of Sound Body and Sound Mind can apply to everyone, not just members within itself.

Along with this letter is a hard copy of the application for the scholarship. Please fill out the required fields and attach a copy of your high school transcript and mail it to the above address. You will be notified by telephone or email as soon as your application has arrived and been reviewed. The winners will be announced on the 10th of September. The applications are due by the 2nd of September. If there are any questions, please feel free to call me at the telephone number listed above. Thank you for your participation and I look forward to meeting you in the fall. Congratulations on your first positive step in your college career.

Sincerely,
Sam Creel
